It's a simple idea and requires very little effort, but there is no doubt that Pack for a Purpose is having a big impact in the lives of children across the globe. Established some 18 months ago by well-travelled couple, Rebecca and Scott Rothney after a trip to Africa where they saw the needs of the local communities, Pack for a Purpose is quickly gaining momentum as a brilliant way of contributing to the lives of children in the poorest countries and communities.
The focus of the project is on the vast number of hotels and lodges throughout Africa and the rest of the world that are engaged in community based projects to better the lives of people living in and around well known tourist destinations. What Pack for a Purpose does is to create a platform where these hotels and lodges can explain their specific needs and travellers who are visiting can help by taking supplies with them on holiday. It doesn't have to be a huge contribution at all and as the website, packforapurpose.org, says: "If just 500 individuals pack 5 lbs (2.27 kgs) each, we can provide 1.25 tons of supplies!". Hence the tag line...Small Space. Little Effort. Big Impact.

ConsiderAfrica.com is fully behind the Pack for a Purpose initiative and we see it as a fantastic and unique way of adding so much value to an African holiday. The fact that the emphasis is on the least amount of effort means that travellers are able to meaningfully make a difference in some of Africa's poorest communities without inconveniencing their holiday at all. Watch the video below for more on this inspiring, and really clever, project.
