Saile Tented Camp, Linyanti Region, Botswana

Located on the edge of the Linyanti marsh, in a private concession which borders on the western edge of the Chobe enclave

Saile Tented Camp is set on the edge of the Linyanti marsh, in a private concession which borders on the western edge of the Chobe enclave. Following in the footsteps of the great explorers Saile Tented Camp is a seasonal bush camp that offers deluxe Hemingway style camping. Small and intimate it is perfectly suited to those who have a spirit of adventure and are looking for an unspoilt back to nature wilderness experience.

Looking out towards the Linyanti floodplains are four fully insect-proofed East African meru style tents equipped with comfortable beds, cosy duvets, fluffy towels and canvas wardrobes. Each tent has a bush style bathroom with flush loo and hot bucket shower that is open to the African sky. At the front of each tent are traditional safari chairs to relax in while enjoying the setting and a canvas wash basin that is filled with hot water early each morning so you can freshen up before departing on your game drive.

With plenty of thoughtful decorative touches the common areas are set under canvas and offer a comfortable refuge between activities. Dining is informal and, depending on the weather, takes place in the mess tent or al fresco with sand under foot. After dinner settle down beside the roaring camp fire and be amazed by the sparkling blanket of stars that beam overhead - there are no lights for miles around to dilute this magical view. Conversation is often lively as your guide, who is also your host, loves to share tales of his life in the bush.

The Linyanti marsh is known for its population of elephant and buffalo that congregate in vast numbers, especially during the dry season months of July to October. Other game species that may be seen in the area include the stately sable, rare roan, lion, leopard, wild dog, and a variety of the plains game. The rare and elusive sitatunga antelope, red lechwe, hippo and crocodile may be found in the surrounding marshes. Birding is outstanding with species ranging from the Okavango specials to a high concentration of raptors. Due to the recent advent of year round water Saile Tented Camp is able to offer both water and land activities. This means guests can enjoy game drives, bush walks, mokoro and boating excursions along picturesque waterways and channels as well as catch and release fishing.
