Meno A Kwena, Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, Botswana

Located in a private area on the Boteti River

Situated on tribal land on the western boundary of the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, Meno a Kwena Tented Camp is set high up on a cliff overlooking the Boteti River that is once again flowing - it last flowed in 1995. Offering old world safari charm Meno A Kwena is an authentic safari camp that is owner run by David Dugmore. His passion and commitment to the animals, conservation, the community and his guests shines through and this is what makes Meno A Kwena a very special little camp.

At Meno A Kwena the emphasis is on providing an unforgettable experience rather than on luxury. Thanks to the great views and the opportunity to witness some amazing animal interaction this is not too hard to achieve. With this in mind each of the eight tents and the "wallow" pool has the equivalent of "front row seats" overlooking the theatre of the Boteti River and the plains of the Makgadikgadi beyond. The tents are simply furnished with items that have been built by local craftsmen, despite their simplicity they each have a bucket shower with a view as well as a flush loo. A large canvas marquee tent covers the main guest areas which consist of a dining area, lounge, bar, reference library and kitchen. Close by is the camp fire, plunge pool and game viewing hide.

Depending on the rains and water availability in the salt pans of the Makgadikgadi Pans herds of many thousand migratory water dependant zebra and wildebeest concentrate along the Boteti River during the dry winter months (May to November) providing the most fantastic game viewing. The possibility of seeing white rhino and, on the very rare occasion, buffalo which make their way down to the river, during the rainy summer months of (November to June) results in wonderful and unexpected Big Five sightings. Guests often opt to stay in camp to enjoy some relaxed game viewing but for those who want to go out on activities there is plenty of choice. Choose between a visit to the local community, nature walks and morning and afternoon game drives, in Makgadikgadi National Park, which is a 45minute drive from the camp plus a canoe trip across the river to get into the park where there is a game drive vehicle based on the other side of the river for game drives. During the summer months a full day excursion to Nxai Pan National Park can be extremely productive with sightings of large herds of zebra, springbok and other herbivores.
