Having been operational for 20 years, Abu Camp is regarded as the original elephant safari experience in Africa. Set in the vast private Abu concession in the heart of the Okavango Delta, the camp offers guests an exceptional Delta experience as well as the chance to meet, walk with, and ride, elephants from the resident elephant herd.
A creative use of canvas, poles and tiered decking has resulted in an elegant, open and luxurious camp that is a haven of relaxation and tranquility. Nestled amongst ancient hardwood trees at the edge of a large lagoon, Abu's main area and six en-suite rooms blend into the natural surroundings and afford beautiful panoramic views of the Delta. Each tent is characterised by generous decks, high ceilings, ample space and luxurious furnishings and fittings that ensure an elegant stay in a spectacular wilderness area.
The homeware, ceramic light pods, seagrass chairs, hand-woven linen fabrics and hand sculpted wooden pieces complement the clean, light and airy design and bring a distinctive air of opulence to the camp, while a well-stocked library, communication area and a stylish and secluded swimming pool all add to the guests overall experience.
Not only is the experience at Abu Camp one of discovering the Okavango Delta and all that makes it magical but guests have the unique and extraordinarily privileged opportunity to become part of an African elephant herd and get to know and admire the individual elephants and their personalities.
