Eagle Island Camp, Okavango Delta, Botswana

Set on a remote island in the Okavango Delta

Situated on the remote island of Xaxaba, shaded by a canopy of indigenous trees and Ilala Palms, Eagle Island Camp overlooks a surrounding lagoon fed by the tranquil waterways of the Delta. A secluded retreat with one of the most beautiful settings in the Okavango Delta, the 11 tents at Eagle Island Camp are everything you would expect from a luxury safari lodge. Each spacious tent is housed on a raised wooden platform, offering great views, and shaded by a traditional African thatch roof. The large private decks are furnished with easy chairs and a hammock, ideal for soaking up the tranquil delta scenery whilst admiring the abundant birdlife or for enjoying dinner in complete privacy. The tent interiors are luxuriously appointed with such comforts as an en suite bathroom, dressing area, fully stocked mini bar, twin or king four poster bed complete with mosquito netting as well as 24 hour air conditioning.

A special feature at Eagle Island Camp is its private suite which is perfect for a more intimate safari experience or for a family. The naturally stunning suite with a spacious secluded deck area is set away from the other tents. To one side, a generous heated splash pool is set amongst the trees for shade and privacy, yet with full views of the Delta allows one to wallow in communion with the hippos whilst spotting elephant and crocodiles on the island banks. The open air double showers and beautiful deep copper-framed Victorian bath, with only the tree canopy as a roof, offers further opportunities to commune with nature. With the suite comes a private vehicle and guide which provide total flexibility when it comes to deciding how you want to spend your day.

Eagle Island Camp's serene watery base lends itself to quiet relaxation, contemplation and reflection. If, however, you are looking for adventure and excitement then Eagle Island will not disappoint - from walking safaris on surrounding islands, where there is always the possibility of a close encounter, to mokoro and motor boat excursions around the myriad of waterways, the diversity and propensity of the wildlife will fascinate the most seasoned of travellers to Africa. During the months of November through March, when water levels drop it is possible to enjoy the excitement of game drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles. Fishing for Tilapia, commonly known as bream, in the waters of the Boro Channel will not disappoint the keen fisherman. It should be noted fishing is on a "catch and release" basis.

Eagle Island Camp is the only property in Botswana to offer a helicopter game viewing activity as part of its daily safari program. This 45 minute interactive game viewing flight with 'doors off' - provides amazing photography opportunities.

Having fun on safari can be exhausting so it's nice to have the opportunity to soak up the scenery and do very little. Eagle Island Camp is the perfect place to do this. Relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings by spending the morning soaking up the sun beside the pool (heated in winter) followed by an indulgent massage or body wrap. Share tales of your adventures with your friends and down load images in the secluded internet lounge. As the sun sets head for the unique Fish Eagle bar for a sundowner or two and watch entranced as fish eagles swoop against a sunset of red, yellow and purple hues. Finally, a fitting way to end the day is an intimate dinner for two on your private deck accompanied by a bottle of fine wine.
