Kaya Mawa is located on historic Likoma Island off the eastern shore of Lake Malawi, a little piece of Malawian territory in Mozambican waters. A small owner run lodge, Kaya Mawa is surrounded by mango trees and ancient baobabs and encircled by glorious sandy beaches and rocky coves. Translated as "maybe tomorrow" in the local dialect, Kaya Mawa's unique, imaginative and environmentally friendly design has made the most of its stunning natural surroundings. Skilfully crafted by local craftsmen there are seven individually designed rooms and five discreetly luxurious houses of varying shape and size. All with en-suite bathroom, private terrace and either a private plunge pool or direct access to the crystal clear waters of Lake Malawi. The beach bar, restaurant and lounge areas are spacious and airy and enjoy fantastic views across the lake.
There is a fairly secluded 200m stretch of pale golden beach for walking and swimming and the warm waters of Lake Malawi offer some of the best fresh water snorkeling and diving in the world. Sailing, kayaking, windsurfing, waterskiing and fishing and mountain biking are just some of the many activities available to guests. Alternatively visit the cobbled market in Mbamba town or take a tour of St Peter's Cathedral which is the size of Winchester Cathedral and is the biggest, most beautiful and the oldest cathedral in Central Africa. Wherever you happen to go on Likoma Island you will be warmly welcomed.
