Pumulani boasts a gorgeous beachfront setting on the southern shores of Lake Malawi, within the confines of Lake Malawi National Park. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Lake Malawi National Park is home to hundreds of species of fish, including the colourful cichlids. Inside the park the scenery is spectacular. Steep hills carpeted with trees tumble down into the deep blue clear water of the lake, while the shoreline is punctuated by islands, bays and large granite boulders.
Aptly described by David Livingstone as the Lake of Stars, Lake Malawi is a fabulous place to chill out and relax after an exciting wildlife safari. With lots to do in the way of activities it is just perfect for families. Mile upon mile of white sand beaches, clear water and an abundance of marine life make it ideal for snorkelling and diving, while the absence of currents ensures it is wonderful for swimming, sailing, kayaking and water sports.
Pumulani has the most spectacular views over Lake Malawi and distant fishing villages. Its ten simple but elegant villas nestle into the lush hillside so their distinctive cooling grass roofs blend in with the surrounding rocks and trees. With cool, clean, curved lines the villas vary in size and design. Each villa has a spacious bedroom, sitting area and bathroom with bath and double shower. To optimise on the magnificent lake view sliding doors open out onto an elevated deck.
The central area comprises a spacious open restaurant, bar and a cosy fire area. Delicious meals are served, either inside or outside on the deck. The infinity swimming pool is on a lower terraced deck. Three raised walkways with steps lead off from the central area to the villas and down to the beach. The lake shore bar is open all day and offers light snacks as well as refreshments.
Pumulani's remote beach setting is ideal for those who simply want to soak up the sun and swim in the Lake's warm waters. Children and more energetic guests will appreciate the host of activities available. These include a range of motorised and non-motorised water sports, excellent snorkelling, some of the best fresh water diving in Africa and fishing. On guided nature walks keen birders will be entrance by the wealth and variety of birdlife on the lake. As well as endemic species, it is also possible to see migrating species as they pass north and south. Experience the genuine warmth of the local people on a guided walk through nearby fishing villages where you will be welcomed into people's homes to see how they work, eat and relax. You will gain an insight into rural village life as the people explain their traditions and rituals.
