Indigo Bay Island Resort & Spa, Bazaruto Archipelago, Mozambique

Situated on Bazaruto Island, the most northern of five dazzling islands that form the Bazaruto Archipelago

Indigo Bay is located on Bazaruto Island, in the Bazaruto Archipelago. A proclaimed National Park and an area of great natural beauty the Archipelago comprises a group of small islands situated approximately 25km off the coast of Mozambique. Bazaruto is the largest (approximately 37km long and up to 7km wide) and northern-most of the five islands.

Understated but elegant, the main lodge areas overlook the crystal clear azure waters of Indigo Bay. Natural reed, soft fringed thatch and wood shade these friendly spaces, which include Golfinho Restaurant, specialising in seafood dinners, and Neptune Bar featuring original walls dating back to early Portuguese traders. Other guest facilities are a salt water swimming pool and wet pool bar, a children's leisure centre ('Indi Kidz'), curio shop, fitness centre and a Wellness (Sanctuary) Spa and Activities Centre.

The 44 beach chalets, suites and villas are privately tucked into the lush tropical foliage along the beach, with direct access to Indigo Bay. They include a Honeymoon Chalet, an Executive Suite and a Presidential Villa. All the chalets are air-conditioned and have palm fringed roofs, wooden flooring, mosquito screens, satellite TV's, electronic safes and mini bars. The king or twin beds are surrounded by cool linens, wood and wicker furnishings and soft tones, the en-suite bathrooms boast plenty of vanity space, large bath tubs beside the windows and refreshing outdoor showers, the light and airy living areas open out to private verandahs.

The impressive Activities Centre includes a restaurant, bar and salt-water swimming pool at Clube Naval, as well as a fishing and diving shop. Marine activities include sport fishing, snorkelling and scuba diving - PADI Dive Instructors (12 sites around Bazaruto island, 22 sites within the Archipelago), water skiing, knee boarding, sunset cruises, island excursions to Paradise Island and romantic, traditional Dhow excursions. Land based activities are just as varied and include horse riding up to the majestic dunes, an island excursion, picnics, dune boarding and playing on the 9-hole Qolf course - an innovation in golfing technology - similar, to a 9-hole Maché course, but with an inventive way of sinking the ball.
