Ibo Island Lodge lies in the Quirimbas Archipelago of northern Mozambique and is accessed from Pemba via a scenic 30 minute flight over the Quirimbas National Park to land on magical Ibo Island. The lodge follows the architecture and style of the original ruins of the age old plantations style Ibo Mansions. The coral and lime walls are over a meter thick, wide verandas are framed by strong pillars and lofty ceilings bear the original beams. Wide doorways and oversized rooms dwarf the chunky furniture, the heavy travelling chests and the stylish couches. Meals of prawns, game fish, lobster and freshly grown herbs, salads and fruits are served indoors, on the rooftop terrace under the stars, or in the bay of Ibo itself, with the warm water lapping at your feet.
The 9 rooms are elegant, yet simple in design and decor. They are cool, light and airy, furnished with indigenous solid teak and mahogany furniture, handcrafted by the people of Ibo. The king size four-poster, or twin beds are also locally made and have crisp cotton linens and Indian silk throws. The en-suite bathrooms have spacious double vanities and large walk-in showers.
This lodge was built by the community, who directly or indirectly benefit from the success of the lodge, so your visit really does make a difference. Your stay at Ibo Island Lodge includes all meals, bottled water, a guided island historical tour, non-motorised activities and a daily transfer to a nearby private beach.
