Medjumbe Private Island is situated at the northern most tip of the Quirimbas Archipelago of northern Mozambique. True hedonistic pleasure awaits you at this romantic and exclusive island getaway. A perfect backdrop of endless white sand and translucent sea mesmerizes all who visit, whilst the untouched marine environment allows for constant new discoveries, whether your passion is diving, fishing, snorkeling, or simply exploring unspoilt beaches.
The uninhabited island is shaped like a pearl, just 1km long and 350m wide at high tide. It is accessed via a picturesque 45 minute flight from Pemba on the mainland. The central dining area, decks and patios are designed for privacy and barefoot luxury. Lounge around the pool overlooking the translucent ocean, sip cocktails in the bar or ensconce yourself upstairs in the informal lounge where you can gaze out at paradise.
The 13 beach chalets are just steps away from the sea, the ultimate setting for barefoot luxury and total privacy. They are decorated in a sophisticated, yet simplistic island style of crisp blues and whites. All the chalets are air-conditioned and have ceiling fans, satellite TV's, electronic safes, mini bars and coffee and tea making facilities. The twin or king beds are lavishly draped in quality linens and mosquito netting. The full en-suite bathrooms boast plenty of vanity space, hair dryers, as well as indoor and outdoor showers. Each chalet opens out to a secluded veranda, shaded by draped palm thatch, with lazy outdoor loungers beside the private plunge pools.
This incredible little island is surrounded by a protected ocean and pristine coral reefs and offers some of the best diving on the Mozambican coast. Bordered to the east by the coastline of Northern Mozambique and to the west by the Mozambique Channel, these waters hold an astounding diversity of marine species and are all within close proximity to the resort. Dolphins are often encountered around the Island and on journeys to and from the dive sites. Humpback Whales on their annual migration are frequently sighted between August and October.
Venture out on a deep sea fishing boat to catch and release big game fish. The area is very popular for the sheer quantity of its year round game fishing - amongst the most common game fish species are; Kingfish, Great Barracuda and Sea Pike, Queen Mackerel, Queenfish, Popano and Prodigal Son.
