Overlooking the southern section of Vilanculos Bay and the harbour, Casa Rex, with only 13 individually styled rooms offers affordable accommodation with a homely touch. Set in beautiful lush,tropical gardens all rooms are en-suite and have panoramic views of the Indian Ocean as well as private balconies. While the Acacia Rooms and the five suites have air-conditioning, all rooms have fans and are equipped with every convenience to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Children are welcome and the Courtyard Suites have been specifically designed to cater for families who need extra beds for the kids. For those guests wanting to keep in touch there is wireless ADSL internet access throughout the lodge and for those who want to chill and enjoy the view there are two salt water swimming pools. The beach can be accessed via a foot path - beware it's an easy walk down but slightly more strenuous on the way up!
There are several restaurants in Vilanculos, however Casa Rex's a la carte restaurant, set on the terrace looking out onto manicured lawns and the sparkling blue ocean, is reputedly the best in town. Offering local specialities, influenced by the Portuguese heritage, all dishes are prepared using fresh ingredients with an emphasis on seafood caught in the area.
The friendly team at Casa Rex will be only too happy to recommend and book activities. A visit to Vilanculos Market and a guided village walk are fun, colourful and interesting. Horse riding, canoeing, sailing, water skiing can easily be arranged. To experience the natural beauty of the Bazaruto Archipelago why not take a relaxed dhow excursion to one of the islands to enjoy some great snorkelling and spend time strolling along theseemingly endless deserted white beaches. During whale season (July - September) you may be lucky enough to spot whales playing in the bay below whilst you sip a cool drink at the terrace restaurant or as you relax on your private balcony.
