Davisons Camp, Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe

Located on the private Linkwasha Concession in the south-eastern section of Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe's largest game reserve

Davison's Camp lies deep in Hwange National Park, in the south-eastern Linkwasha Concession - one of the best game viewing areas of the entire Park. It is a vintage style safari camp, whose tents are tastefully hidden beneath a grove of trees, overlooking a waterhole and open plain.

Named after the founder of Hwange National Park, and its first warden, Ted Davison, this simple camp offers an affordable bush experience. In the centre of camp the main open fronted guest areas, which consist of a lounge, dining area and bar are under canvas and in typical safari style are furnished with dark leather couches and heavy wood tables. A campfire area in front of camp encourages guests to relax under the stars after dinner.

The nine walk-in tents are all at ground level and feature large mesh windows making them light and airy. Each tent has a concrete floor, scatter rugs, ceiling fan, en-suite shower, toilet and wash basin and small veranda.

Game viewing is good all year round in the Linkwasha Concession and wildlife frequently encountered here includes lion, large herds of elephant, buffalo, leopard, white rhino, spotted hyena, southern giraffe, sable, blue wildebeest, impala, common waterbuck and reedbuck. There are a number of large, open plains which make for excellent game viewing; during the low rainfall months of summer the antelope drop their young creating a land of plenty whilst in the dry winter months, the game congregates around the waterholes becoming more and more plentiful as the water levels begin to drop. Birdlife in the area is prolific and varied, with species frequenting the teak woodlands as well as those typical of the drier Kalahari being present.

Activities include game drives in open 4x4 vehicles, or guided walks in the early mornings, while during the siesta hours, guests can view wildlife coming down to the waterhole to drink from their tent veranda or the main guest area.
