Linyanti Region

Linyanti Region, Botswana - Kwando Lebala

The Linyanti area is one of the best and most beautiful wildlife destinations in Botswana especially during the dry season when the permanent water of the Kwando and Linyanti rivers attract vast numbers of game. The Linyanti is home to several unique features, the Savute Channel, once again a river in its own right, the Selinda Spillway and the Linyanti River frontage of which just 7kms falls within Chobe National Park. Secluded and un-crowded, this short strip of swampy river frontage is reminiscent of the Okavango's permanent waterways with papyrus-lined lagoons, reed-beds and a towering canopy of trees.

In Botswana there are a number of private concessions that are leased and operated in partnership with the Government and local communities by private lodge and safari operators. These concessions are situated in vast, pristine wilderness areas and offer superlative game viewing opportunities. National Park regulations do not permit walking, off road driving, night drives and bush dining all of which are possible in private concessions. The other huge advantage of staying at a safari camp in a private concession is the only vehicles you will see are from the camps situated in the concession which results in a truly remarkable safari experience.

The Linyanti area has been divided into three private concessions that are home to a handful of small and exclusive safari lodges.

The Linyanti Concession which borders Chobe National Park's western boundary is an enormous 125,000 hectare wildlife-rich area with an unrivalled atmosphere of remoteness and space. In the dry winter months elephants concentrate in enormous numbers at the river and waterholes. Thousands of zebra spend the winter in the Linyanti before heading south to the Savute in November in expectation of summer rains and good grazing. The particularly beautiful sable and roan antelopes are found here and red lechwe and the aquatic sitatunga antelope inhabit the wetlands. In addition to predators like lion, spotted hyena and leopard the area plays host to healthy populations of cheetah and wild dog. Birding is spectacular all year round.
