Sabi Sand Reserve

Sabi Sand Reserve, South Africa

The 65,000 hectare Sabi Sand Reserve is the oldest and most successful private reserve in South Africa. The history of today's Sabi Sand Reserve as a formal association dates back to 1948 when the landowners formed the private nature reserve. Today, many of these families are now third and fourth generation land owners, their legacy being the successful conservation of the highest density of big game in South Africa. Even though there is a 50km unfenced boundary with the Kruger National Park, the game in the Sabi Sand Reserve is well habituated resulting in unforgettable close encounters and prolific sightings, particularly of the elusive leopard. The Sabie and the Sand Rivers run through the reserve, which add further dimension to the bio-diversity of this area.
